Theatre as Bridge

Theatre understood as a bridge is a privileged instrument to activate journeys within themselves, in direct relationship with otherness and with the territory. A bridge capable of giving visibility, projection, empowerment, and voice to all those who have not been heard. The meaning of the existence of theatre as a facilitating medium lies in the awareness of its social mission.

The proposal of Theatre as a Bridge has been developed at Teatro Cenit by Bernardo Rey and Nube Sandoval. For 25 years they have implemented it in the ideation, direction and coordination of artistic projects in risk areas and with vulnerable populations in Colombia, Ecuador, United States, France, Italy, Switzerland and Kenya.

Theatre as a Bridge is rooted in the social commitment of contemporary theatre. For this work, Cenit has been awarded with the Premio Catarsi-Teatri delle Diversitá by the Italian National Association of Theatre Critics, the "Ellen Stewart International Award" in New York and the 1st Prize at the International Biennial of Theatre and Psychiatry in Italy.
